Virgin Voyages has published photographs of the mermaid that will be engraved on the hull of the new ship Resilient Lady.
The Latina mermaid, designed by oil painter and muralist Jodie Herrera, will be at the helm of the 110,000-tonne mid-sized vessel, which is scheduled to launch in August.
Herrera’s design was described as a “strong and muscular figure leading sailors onward into great adventures,” a tribute to the line’s Latin history.
Virgin Voyages’ mermaids are a “symbol of individualism and defiance,” inspired by the pictures painted on the planes of American WWII planes.
Resilient Lady will set sail from Athens on a series of seven- and nine-night voyages beginning in August. Santorini, Rhodes, Mykonos, Catania, Palma de Mallorca, and Lisbon are among the ports of call.
