On 1st May, Shanghai is the last route to be added back to the Virgin Atlantic network after the pandemic.
As previously stated, the daily service will recommence from Heathrow, with rates beginning at £432.
The action follows the first easing of travel restrictions between the two nations since December 2020.
After experiencing delays and cancellations since February 2020, the Chinese city is the airline’s final return route.
Following the restart announcement in February, Virgin Atlantic reported “strong demand” for both business and leisure travel in both directions.
China Eastern, the airline’s newest SkyTeam alliance partner, also has a hub in Shanghai.
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft operated by Virgin Atlantic will be used on the route out of London.
Later this year, new services to Turks & Caicos and the Maldives will also begin.
According to the Chief Commercial Officer, “The restart of our services to Shanghai is a major milestone for Virgin Atlantic.
“Shanghai was the first of our routes to be suspended in 2020 at the start of the global pandemic and the last to return, making it the final piece to restore our flying programme to full capacity.
“After such a long hiatus, we’re looking forward to welcoming our customers back to Shanghai and providing vital links to one of the UK’s largest trading partners, for both passenger and cargo services.”
