The Dubai Media Office has announced that over 10,000 members of staff working at 20 hotels on Palm Jumeirah have now received both their first and second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing which initiated the vaccination drive in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention said that the campaign was designed to combat Covid-19 and enhance the suitability of the emirate as a destination of choice as tourism starts to reopen.
Although international travel from the UK will not be permitted until at least 17th May 2021, it is not clear yet whether holidays to Dubai for UK travellers will be possible on that date. The United Arab Emirates is currently on the Red List of 33 countries from which direct flights are prohibited and from where travellers returning to the UK are required to quarantine at a government designated hotel for 10 days. This could mean that a Dubai holiday is technically possible but practically difficult.
If the United Arab Emirates is not removed from the Red List prior to 17th May 2021, the costs of a holiday in Dubai might be prohibitive because of the extra £3,050 that would be payable by a family comprising 2 adults and 2 children for a 10 day quarantine package upon their return.
If the UAE is removed from the Red List before 17th May 2021, travellers booking a Dubai holiday on Palm Jumeirah will have the added reassurance of a reduced risk from staff spreading the virus at their hotel.
