Airlines in the United States have been pressing for the federal mask law for public transportation to be repealed. As a result of the regulation, all types of public transportation, including cabs and Ubers, as well as flights, now require the use of a mask. This is despite the fact that the CDC recommends not wearing a mask indoors in most cases. The mask mandate was supposed to end on the 18th April, but Biden chose to prolong it for another two weeks. This is regrettable, but at least it will only last two weeks instead of the customary month.
The order has been extended until 3rd May by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enable more time to research the BA.2 omicron subvariant.
According to a spokesman, “In order to assess the potential impact the rise of cases has on severe disease, including hospitalizations and deaths, and health care system capacity, the CDC order will remain in place at this time.”
