Seven countries will be added to the government’s green list, including Canada, while Thailand and Montenegro will be put on the red list.
The modifications have been verified by the government and will take effect at 4 a.m. on Monday, 30th August.
At the most recent update of the traffic light list, which occurs every three weeks, no countries have been added to the amber list.
Along with Canada, European destinations such as Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the Azores will make the transition from amber to green.
Travelers from these countries will not be required to quarantine, regardless of whether they are fully vaccinated; nonetheless, they will be required to do pre-departure and day 2 tests, as well as complete a passport application.
From Monday, visitors arriving in the UK from Thailand and Montenegro will be required to isolate for 10 days in a supervised quarantine facility and complete the relevant testing. The cost of quarantine in a hotel starts at £2,285.
High rates, combined with lower levels of published genomic surveillance in Thailand and Montenegro than in other countries, mean that an outbreak of a new variant, existing variants of concern, or variants under investigation cannot be easily identified before being imported and seeded across the UK, according to the Department for Transport.
