Malaysia is the most recent Asian country to announce plans to reopen its borders to international visitors.
Cambodia likewise intends to gradually open up to international tourism beginning today (Monday). Travelers who have had all of their vaccinations will simply need to take a quick test and wait for the results before being free to tour Cambodia.
Thailand opened its doors to overseas travelers who had been vaccinated on 1st November.
Malaysia’s National Recovery Council requested that it open its borders to international travelers by 1st January at the latest, prompting specialist operator InsideAsia to prepare for travel to the country to resume.
The declaration comes as the country recognizes the importance of incoming international tourism in improving the country’s economy.
With 95% of the population now vaccinated, Malaysia announced this week the development of a vaccinated travel lane connecting Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
James Mundy, a spokeswoman for InsideAsia, said: “Although it is unclear as to the terms of international travel at the moment, it is very reassuring that Malaysia is taking steps to open up again soon.”
The specialty operator for Southeast and East Asia added Malaysia to its portfolio for its 20th anniversary and was planning to launch it in 2020 when the epidemic struck.
With a focus on responsible and ecological travel, the operator has devised ten new itineraries that encompass Malaysia and Borneo.
