The Mermoon Resort Hainan Tufu Bay, Tapestry Collection by Hilton has opened, marking Hilton’s entry into the distinctive holiday destination of Hainan Island, China’s southernmost point. The hotel, which takes its name from a romantic local fishing legend, combines the island’s fishing village culture with Tufu Bay’s scenic splendour to create a contemporary, serene haven where visitors may explore and fully immerse themselves in a tropical paradise. Hilton is in charge of running the resort, which is owned by China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd.
A moving legend about a young fisherman named Ah Fu and a mermaid imprisoned in a wooden box served as the inspiration for the resort’s architecture. According to legend, Ah Fu fulfilled the mermaid’s request for the residents of the bay to enjoy happier, more wealthy lives in exchange for saving her when he was out fishing. The mermaid was inspired by the love tale that resulted from this deed of compassion to teach the locals how to fish and to give Ah Fu a golden “Fu Bowl” that attracted fish when struck three times.
Visitors are welcomed with a blue-green sculpture made of coloured resin that depicts the mermaid’s aquatic abode in intricate patterns as they enter the hotel foyer. Pearl-shaped chandeliers and wall art depicting coral and shells provide the impression of an underwater wonderland above the sculpture.
A stunning sculpture depicting a mermaid swimming freely in the water and made from more than 60,000 mother-of-pearl beads commands centre stage in the reception area. The sea air gently rustles the beads when visitors arrive, producing a lyrical sound reminiscent of a mermaid’s voice.
The hotel has 116 guest rooms and suites, all of which were carefully created to thoroughly immerse visitors in the atmosphere of a fishing hamlet. Each accommodation has a private balcony with breath-taking views of either the gorgeous South China Sea or Tufu Bay. The vanity mirror is supported by a pearl chandelier, and the sliding door has fish scale decorations to complete the ocean-themed experience. The bathroom is supposed to mimic a wooden boat packed with marine riches.
The hotel’s five distinctively designed restaurants and bars provide food made with Hainan Island products and provide visitors with a genuine dining experience:
An homage to plenty and the mermaid’s gift of the Fu Bowl is the all-day dining establishment Fu Bay. The restaurant specialises on using fresh, seasonal products from Tufu Bay’s fishing port and serves
Western, Mediterranean, Southeast Asian, and regional Hainan specialties. The lobby is a maritime refuge decorated with sails and sailor stripes.
Visitors embark on a voyage of authentic Hainan cuisine at Haitang Chinese Restaurant. The restaurant’s menu features classic Sichuan and Hunan dishes as well as Hainan cuisine, showcasing the distinctive regional culinary tradition.
Visitors can savour a variety of delectable nibbles, fresh coconut water, a Blue Ocean Dream Afternoon Tea and unique drinks like Sunset at Tufu Bay and Mermaid Island Sea in the lobby bar, The Mermoon Bar.
The informal Star Bar is a great place to go for evening beverages and cocktails. It’s right by the outdoor pool. As dusk comes, visitors may eat fish hot off the grill and sip on specialty cocktails as they take in Tufu Bay’s lunar beauty and starry skies.
With a book in one hand and a cup of coffee, tea or a specialty drink in the other, visitors may unwind at The Bay Library. The brown-and-white striped umbrellas and pebble-styled sofa seats complete the library’s undulating ceiling design, which imitates the lapping of beach waves against the shore.
In addition to its extensive dining selections, the hotel provides 1,000 square metres of outdoor grass space and over 614 square metres of flexible event space with four banquet and meeting facilities that may be combined. High-speed internet, cutting-edge audiovisual technology, and lighting equipment are available in every meeting space.
The outdoor pool’s mermaid-tail shape, which represents a mermaid swimming through the azure sea, was inspired by the legend. Additionally, the hotel sells mermaid costumes so that visitors can dress up as “mermaids” from Tufu Bay and take magical vacation photos. Younger visitors can take advantage of the children’s club and special outdoor pool.
The resort, which is tucked away in Hainan Island’s picturesque Tufu Bay, enjoys a perfect location just 50 km from Sanya Phoenix International Airport. Numerous well-liked tourist destinations, like as Danjia Fishing Village, Nanwan Monkey Island, Boundary Island, Sanya Paddy Field National Park, and Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex, are conveniently accessible to visitors.
The Mermoon Resort Hainan Tufu Bay is a participant in Hilton Honours, the prestigious guest loyalty programme. Hilton Honours members will receive an extra 1,000 points per night for booking and staying at The Mermoon Resort Hainan Tufu Bay through the Hilton website between 15th June and 14th September 2023, as a way of recognising the hotel’s debut.
