From 1st March, Thailand will relax entrance requirements for vaccinated visitors, removing the requirement for newcomers to take a PCR Covid test on day five.
Instead, on day five, visitors can take cheaper quick antigen testing. These can be self-administered, so travelers don’t need to book a hotel room to complete the day five examinations.
On the first day, PCR tests are still required, and guests are asked to wait for their findings in a hotel. Visitors must also show proof of pre-payment for a day at a government-approved hotel when they arrive.
Thailand recognizes the NHS Covid Pass from the United Kingdom as proof of vaccination, which must be presented upon arrival by anyone over the age of 18. Vaccinations must have been given 14 days prior to travel.
Before boarding a flight heading for Thailand, pre-departure PCR testing is still necessary, and travelers must register with the Thailand Pass.
Non-vaccinated visitors must quarantine at an approved hotel upon arrival.
According to Bloomberg, Thailand’s leading viral task force, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, directed by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha, has also reduced the minimum medical insurance coverage for visitors to $20,000 from $50,000.
According to Bloomberg, Thailand’s Test & Go program has cleared over 302,000 visitors for admission since it reopened for the second time on 1st February.
On Wednesday, Thailand’s Covid cases reached 21,232, a six-month high, although deaths remained at 39, compared to moreover 300 a day during the peak of the Delta wave in August.
