The first ship from the reestablished cruise line Swan Hellenic has set sail on its inaugural voyage to Antarctica, which will last 10 days.
On New Year’s Eve, Minerva set off from Ushuaia, Argentina’s southernmost city.
The voyage, which was inaugurated in July 2020, “launches a new era” for the cruise line, according to the cruise line.
Swan Hellenic’s chief executive, Andrea Zito, said: “We are immensely proud to have welcomed our first guests aboard this wonderful new ship to live unique new experiences that advance the revered Swan Hellenic tradition, taking them to see what others don’t in exceptional comfort and style.”
Minerva, the first of three ice-class expedition cruise ships, can accommodate 152 people in 76 rooms and suites and has a crew of 120.
The second ship, Vega, is scheduled to arrive in April 2022, and a larger vessel with 192 passenger capacity is expected to arrive by the end of the current year.
