Japan has become home to the planet’s first Super Nintendo World theme park.
The park, which is part of Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, will allow guests to “play inside their favourite video games”. The grand opening took place this week, with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario, among the guests.
Rides and attractions at the park are inspired by Nintendo games, including the world’s first interactive Mario Kart experience, as well as restaurants, shopping, and other activities.
Guests race to the finish line through courses featured in the game alongside their favourite Nintendo characters during, which uses augmented reality technology, projection mapping, and screen projection.
“Power-Up Bands” which can be bought at the park allow guests to sync their smartphones, track their scores, and compete with other visitors in the park.
