Due to concerns about the delta version of Covid-19, Spain will require a negative PCR test or proof of full immunization from UK travelers.
According to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the new limits would take effect in 72 hours “so that tour operators and British tourists can adjust to the new rules.”
The conditions will have an especially negative impact on visitors to the Balearic Islands, which will be added to the UK’s green “watchlist” on June 30.
The remainder of Spain will remain on the amber list, requiring quarantine when they return.
Portugal, which is on the UK’s amber list, and Malta, which is on the green list, have both implemented similar limits.
“We are going to apply to British tourists who travel to the Balearic islands the same restrictions that we place on the rest of Europe. They will need either to be fully vaccinated or have a negative PCR test,” Sanchez told the Spanish Cadena SER radio network.
The step is in response to data from the United Kingdom that showed infection rates “far beyond 150 infections per 100,000 population based on the previous 14 days.”
