South Africa no longer requires fully vaccinated visitors to show a negative PCR test in order to enter the country.
The new guidelines, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa, will take effect on Wednesday (March 23), and unvaccinated visitors would still need a negative PCR “not older than 72 hours” to gain access.
President Ramaphosa said, “All unvaccinated travelers entering the country who want to be vaccinated will be offered a vaccination,”
Previously, all visitors to South Africa had to present proof of a negative PCR test.
Ramaphosa also announced adjustments to South Africa’s domestic Covid policy, allowing vaccinated individuals or those who have had a negative test to return to athletic venues and half-capacity music and theater acts.
Face masks are no longer required to be worn outside, however, they are required to be worn in public interior venues.
“We are now at a watershed moment. We are now ready to enter a new phase in our management of the pandemic,” he said.
