Savoring Alaska: A Culinary Journey with Holland America Line

The “Alaska Up Close” programme will be expanded by Holland America Line with new gastronomic and cultural experiences throughout the 2023 Alaska season.

“Since launching Alaska Up Close we’ve introduced incredible programming that brings an authentic Alaska experience to our guests like no other cruise line,” said Michael Smith, senior vice president, of guest experience and product development. “This season we’re growing the program to embed Alaskan fresh fish and wildlife spotting into the cruise on an even more expansive scale, from new localized cuisine and cocktails to exciting lectures and wildlife viewing. We want our guests to have experiences they can’t find anywhere else.”

Every Alaska cruise will feature new localised cuisine, authentic glacier ice cocktails, an Alaska-themed brunch, an Huna native presentation, and wildlife experts on board to assist passengers in spotting the local wildlife from the deck, according to a press release.

Additionally, the programme will continue to include seminars, talks, EXC Talks, and dinner events that highlight the local cuisine.

The new drinks, which incorporate genuine Alaska glacier ice gathered with a state permit among gliding glacier bergs, consist of Juneau Gin and Tonic” with Juneauper Gin that’s produced in Juneau, Alaska. “Alaska’s Blue Ice” features De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, X Rum and pineapple juice. Blue Iceberg contains Juneauper Gin, apricot brandy, Blue Curaçao and lime juice. Black and Blue: Made with Jonnie Walker Black or Jack Daniels Black Label served over glacier ice.

The new Alaska Brunch menu, which is only available on cruises, was developed using Alaskan and Pacific Northwest ingredients. There are several options, such as Tarragon Crepes, Wild Forest Mushroom, Salmon and Potato Chowder, and Alaskan Blueberry Pancakes.

Every Alaska cruise will also include unique meals and theme nights at the Lido Market. On all voyages, guests can savour pop-up dinners of salmon bake and seafood boil. The extended menu on Holland America Line also offers organic food.
