SAS has confirmed that starting on Boxing Day, it will fly to a dedicated Scandinavian airport, demonstrating its confidence in a winter ski comeback.
From Heathrow, the airline will fly to Scandinavian Mountains Airport.
With a 10-minute journey, the airport serves as a gateway to the Salen and Trysil ski resorts in Sweden and Norway.
“The huge interest for alpine skiing and winter holidays in Scandinavia has seen an increase over the last few years, and despite the ongoing pandemic, we are optimistic about the upcoming season as our guests and citizens are being vaccinated,” said Stefan Sjostrand, chief executive of resort operator SkiStar.
“Furthermore, with this new flight from London to our destinations, foreign skiers will have even greater access to our destinations.”
“Flying to the mountains is an even more efficient mode of transportation for many, making it a more relevant alternative when planning their vacations,” he added.
“We are ecstatic that SAS recognizes the importance of our destinations and sees this as an opportunity. This winter, we are looking forward to welcoming both new and returning guests.”
