The Munich firm, led by founder and CEO Michael Struck, has 16 hotels around Europe, including Ruby Zoe. A brand-new structure with a total area of 6,860 square feet is located right on Notting Hill Gate and is a short stroll from the renowned Portobello Road. It has six stories and has a total of 173 rooms.
The history of Notting Hill and its Caribbean background served as inspiration for Ruby Zoe’s design. This is particularly clear in the interior design and decor, which are a reflection of all the various cultures that have contributed to the neighborhood’s current dynamism. The 1970s, Portobello Road’s vibrant colours, and the Caribbean islands in particular served as inspiration for the comfortable Ruby environment, which is characterised by a friendly ambience that is bursting with colour, aged surfaces, and musical allusions. The entire ground floor is exposed to the city thanks to the large, transparent glass fronts on three sides.
The most recent hotel adheres to Ruby’s Lean Luxury philosophy as well, with a prime position in the middle of the action, elegant design, and top-notch amenities that include only what guests truly need. By continually cutting out extraneous and unnecessary items, it does so economically. This entails lots of crisp white and cherry wood wall panelling in the rooms of the Ruby Zoe, as well as brand-typical details like an open washstand and a glass rain shower. The artwork over the bed, which draws inspiration from the vibrant Notting Hill homes, adds even more charm.
The 455 square is unquestionably a highlight. ft. open space on the bottom floor, which has a bar and a store selling vinyl records. The vinyls are for sale on-site and have been chosen by Ruby’s own resident artists. The open-plan room offers space to work from or simply just have a coffee while people-watching passersby, and it invites locals, visitors, and even the neighbourhood to linger.
In addition, renowned British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové will have a public artwork created especially for the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea put on the hotel’s façade in the autumn of 2023. His first piece of glass mosaic art was inspired by the customs, style, and liberties of masquerade and funfair. The Ruby Zoe’s entrance will be framed by eight floor-to-ceiling glass mosaic panels as part of Ové’s installation. Together, they create an exuberant funfair procession that honours both the rich history of the neighbourhood and Ové’s personal ties to it.
In the centre of the vibrant Notting Hill district sits Ruby Zoe. The famed Portobello Market, noted for its antiques and vintage clothing, Hyde Park, and Kensington Palace are all within walking distance of the hotel. Right outside the door is the excellent public transport hub of Notting Hill Gate. The drive to London Heathrow Airport takes 40 minutes.
Ruby offers four different accommodation types for guests to select from, including the cosy NEST accommodation with around 15 square metres, the COSY Rooms with about 17 square metres, the LOVELY Rooms for weekends for two, with from 18 to 24 square metres, and the WOW Rooms with up to 30 square metres. The typical nightly hotel charge is about 225 GBP.
