The first-ever Rollglider at sea will be onboard Princess Cruises’ forthcoming ship Sun Princess as part of a brand-new top-deck family activity area.
When the line’s first Sphere-class ship departs in February 2024, Park19, which will make its debut onboard, will be situated on decks 19, 20, and 21 and provide nine family-friendly activities.
One of them is the Rollglider Sea Breeze, which will transport visitors very high up to provide them with panoramic views of the sea and the ports of call.
Using an overhead track, passengers are seated and tethered to this electric ride, which, during the 60- to 90-second experience, reaches speeds of up to 11 mph.
Visitors will climb from decks 19 to 20 through a series of challenges on a new climbing apparatus called Coastal Climb. Before sliding back down to the bottom, visitors can enjoy the views once they reach the top.
Adventurers ascend the climbing structure to reach The Lookout, an outdoor viewing deck where they may enjoy 360-degree views from the Sun Princess’ highest point.
The Net, a tethered obstacle course above deck 19, will test visitors’ balance as they traverse shaky bridges, a z-shaped balance beam, and cargo nets.
The ship will also have youth and teen centres, a splash zone, a recreational court, a hammock area, and a running track.
According to the Princess Cruises president, John Padgett, “Park19, as the name suggests, is a new space created for all our guests, including activities to bring together multi-generational travel families in a location with spectacular views and fun outdoor activities for all.”
