By the end of 2025, Qantas will offer a new nonstop service from Sydney to New York and London.
It comes after the airline purchased 12 Airbus A350-1000s to fly ultra-long-haul trips between Australia and other locations that might last up to 20 hours.
The “Project Sunrise” services will provide “market-leading” passenger comfort and will begin flying from Sydney by the end of 2025.
As its Boeing 737s and 717s are gradually decommissioned, Qantas will begin the renewal of its narrow-body jets as part of “Project Winton,” with orders for 20 Airbus A321XLRs and 20 A220-300s.
The first of these planes will arrive in late 2023, and the deal includes buy rights for another 94 planes that will be delivered until at least 2034.
The additions to Qantas’ fleet would result in the creation of 1,000 jobs and other professional advancement opportunities, according to the airline.
