The news that British passport holders will be able to utilize e-gates at four of Portugal’s airports has been welcomed by the Portuguese tourist authority.
The e-gates, which are now open in Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Funchal, will make it easier for British passport holders to enter the country.
President of Turismo of Portugal, Luis Araujo, said: “We are delighted to continue welcoming British tourists to Portugal and are pleased that the e-gates in the country’s main airports will provide increased accessibility for our valued British travellers, as we head into the busy summer period.
“We’re delighted to have made travel to Portugal even more seamless for those able to make the most of the new e-gates.”
Travelers to mainland Portugal will no longer be required to fill out a Passenger Locator Form, and masks will only be required on public transportation (including taxis and planes) and while entering hospitals, care homes, and similar facilities starting today.
According to the tourist board, the United Kingdom was the top market for hotel nights in February and was the second highest contributor to Portugal’s overall tourism earnings in January and February 2022.
