In a comprehensive exhibition in Paris, the concepts for a completely reimagined Orient Express train that will debut in 2025 have been unveiled.
The luxury train company hired famous designer Maxime d’Angeac to renovate vintage coaches from the long-gone Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient-Express, adding sumptuous, striking new furniture that were inspired by the Roaring Twenties to the traditional carriage design.
The opulent new carriages combine art deco, empire, and contemporary styles while being newly furnished with modern amenities. With thoughtfully placed furniture, the bar and dining carriages are created with comfort and mobility in mind.
Inside the Bar Car, d’Angeac has fashioned a stylish vintage setting with bright green furnishings, dark rosewood walls, and a glass bar that was inspired by French glass manufacturer Lalique. The Dining Car, meanwhile, has mirrored ceilings and arches, as well as architectural elements that pay homage to vintage Orient-Express characteristics like studded armchairs and shaded table lamps.
The train’s suites have leather and hardwood walls, corner sofas that can be made into double beds, marble baths, and private dressing rooms. The corners of the suites are rounded to soften the sharp lines of the train.
“The train’s history has been rewritten, this time transcending trends,” said d’Angeac. “Nothing is superfluous – each detail has meaning. It is part engineering feat, part dream-inspiring work of art that is the epitome of French luxury, complete with refined decor, sublimated by the savoir-faire and talent of the finest French artisans.”
The new train style is on display at an exhibition in the seventh arrondissement from October 17 to October 21 to coincide with Paris Contemporary Art Week. The designs will also be on display at Design Miami in Florida’s Miami Beach from November 30 to December 4, 2022.
The new carriages will also be on display in 2024 before the Olympic Games in Paris.
