On Friday 29th July, the Fincantieri shipyard in Venice delivered Norwegian Prima, the newest ship for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).
The achievement commemorates the delivery of the first ship of NCL’s Prima-class, which will witness the delivery of six additional ships through 2027.
The occasion was attended by Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and Harry Sommer, president and top executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.
Added Sommer: “Today we usher in a thrilling new era in cruising as we celebrate the delivery of Norwegian Prima, the long-anticipated first ship in our extraordinary new Prima-class.
“She is a true testament to our guest first philosophy as well as our commitment to deliver unforgettable experiences that exceed expectations.”
The ship has two infinity pools very close to the water’s surface at Infinity Beach and two glass bridges at Oceanwalk that give passengers the impression that they are “walking on air” above the water. Ocean Boulevard stretches around the whole deck and is more than 44,000 square feet in size.
Prima, which will be christened in Iceland for the first time this August, will set sail for Amsterdam on an eight-day debut journey from the Icelandic city of Reykjavik on 27th August.
Global pop singer Katy Perry, who is Prima’s godmother, will perform at the christening ceremony and follow a long-standing maritime custom by blessing and naming the ship.
After its first trip, the Prima will depart on a number of eight-day cruises from Amsterdam and Copenhagen that will give passengers the chance to visit Northern Europe and the Norwegian Fjords.
