This summer, Norse Atlantic Airways, which has added two new routes to the US, has seized the title of largest transatlantic airline from Gatwick.
The long-distance low-cost airline began offering services to Los Angeles and San Francisco over the weekend.
Daily flights departing from London to Los Angeles start at £460 roundtrip.
With lead-in returns of £455, the San Francisco route is flown three times per week.
The addition of the additional routes coincided with Cirium, a company that analyses aviation statistics, predicting that departures from the UK to the US in July will surpass 2019 levels by 1%, totaling 4,658 flights and more than 1.2 million seats.
Flights across the Atlantic from the UK to the US are up 395 percent from May 2021 and up 18% from July of last year.
Heathrow leads the pack of scheduled UK-US flights this month (82%), followed by Gatwick (8%), Edinburgh (5%) and Manchester (4%) — a total of nine UK airports provide direct flights to the US.
Bjrn Tore Larsen, the president and CEO of Norse Atlantic, said: “Los Angeles and San Francisco have now become the fifth and sixth destinations to the US from our London base.
“With the addition of these two destinations Norse Atlantic is now the largest long-haul operator to the US from London Gatwick.
“We are proud to offer an affordable and convenient way to explore these two iconic cities and experience the renowned sights and cultural landmarks that make each destination unique.”
The airline already uses two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliners to fly to US cities like New York, Washington, Miami, and Orlando.
