Since the pandemic forced a suspension of all cruises last year, Nieuw Statendam has become the fifth Holland America Line ship to re-enter operation.
The ship resumed its seven-day western Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The cruises, which last seven to eleven days and include stops at private island Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, will operate through April 2022.
The Rotterdam, Koningsdam, Eurodam, and Nieuw Amsterdam are among the new-builds that have returned to service.
Gus Antorcha, president of HAL, said: “Today is another milestone in our return to service, with Nieuw Statendam starting operation just in time for Thanksgiving, and we have a lot to be thankful for this year that we’re getting back in the water.”
