Morocco is now open to international visitors again, after being closed since late November owing to the Omicron version of Covid-19.
Adult arrivals must provide proof of vaccination, with UK visitors needing to produce their NHS Covid Pass. This rule does not apply to children under the age of 18.
However, all passengers aged six and up must show documentation of a negative PCR test within 48 hours before boarding. A test is not required for children under the age of six.
The Moroccan National Tourism Office’s director general and chief executive, Adel El Fakir, said: “Morocco is open and welcoming guests, but health is the number-one priority. The conditions are the same for visitors as for Moroccans.”
Masks are required in public areas. A vaccine passport is required to visit a restaurant. However, there are no limitations, such as closing times or curfews.
On arrival at the airport, certain passengers may be forced to do a quick or PCR test, which will be chosen at random. They will not, however, be compelled to wait for the results. There is no quarantine at the hotel. Instead, everyone who tests positive will be forced to isolate themselves in their lodging until they test negative.
Any pre-arrival test will be free, but those who test positive will be charged for additional tests.
Flights on Ryanair and Royal Air Maroc were set to resume today, and British Airways and Tui flights were set to resume later this month. The tourism office is still in talks with other airlines, notably easyJet, about resuming service.
Morocco attracted over 600,000 British visitors in 2019, making it the country’s fourth-largest international market behind France (4.2 million), Spain (2.3 million), and Germany (2.3 million) (700,000). However, in terms of bed nights, the United Kingdom was the second-largest market.
