A £1.3 billion makeover at Manchester Airport will include an expanded departure lounge and commercial area with 27 new stores and eateries.
The airport began a bidding process for more than two dozen new units this month with the intention of revealing the successful applicants by next April. At that time, the designs for Terminal Two were made public.
The updated and enlarged retail and dining options are a part of the second phase of the makeover, which will also include the renovation and expansion of the existing Terminal Two building.
By 2025, the project is anticipated to be finished. Once the second phase is finished, it is anticipated that more than 80% of travelers will use Terminal Two. Along with a high street-style shopping district named The Avenue that will have a champagne bar and premium brands, artisan cafés, and a brasserie, a food market providing a variety of international cuisines and quick bites will be built.
To “showcase the best of the north,” the airport is looking for businesses to occupy spaces selling toys, clothing, accessories, and travel necessities. Several Manchester brands were added to Terminal Two during the project’s initial phase, including
Director of airport retail Richard Jackson said: “We are well aware that our guests’ holidays start at the airport and we want them to enjoy their time here – whether that means sipping craft beer brewed at the airport in a bar overlooking the airfield, or eating an artisan pizza.
“We already have a great range of food and drink options in Terminal Two, with local brands which create a strong sense of place, but we’re looking to build on that with all-new offerings, including a champagne bar and a market hall style food court.”
“We’re also seeking retail partners who will bring a high-class offering, tailored to the needs of the travelling public.”
“The first phase of the project saw some exciting brands come on board, but we’re now keen to build on that and provide a more varied and comprehensive retail experience to cater for the tastes of the millions of passengers who will pass through the terminal’s doors.”
