The Radisson Hotel Group is pleased to announce the launch of Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan, the company’s fifth luxury lifestyle hotel in Italy. The hotel emanates individuality and joie de vivre in true Italian style by fusing iconic architecture, quirky furnishings, great dining experiences, individualized service, and opulent amenities.
The Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan is well situated in the heart of Milan, on an important axis at the junction of Via Santa Sofia and Corso Italia, halfway between Piazza del Duomo and the renowned Navigli canal region. The neighborhood is enticing since it is close to all the city’s attractions and has entertainment venues, bustling squares, retail avenues, and more. Within a few steps away from the hotel are the historic Roman columns of San Lorenzo, the Santa Maria dei Miracoli e San Celso church, the Basilica di Sant’Eustorgio with its vibrant frescoes, and the Naviglio Grande with its restaurants, bars, and nightlife by the water.
The original Allianz Italia headquarters from the 1960s was transformed over a four-year period by architects Studio Marco Piva into a stunning five-star luxury hotel, tailored to business and hospitality needs with high standards of aesthetics, functionality, and efficient use of resources, with an eye toward achieving a LEED level gold certification. The ancient façade, which was covered in Venetian trachyte, was conserved and enhanced with new outside lighting. The building’s architectural significance in the Milanese cityscape is marked by the original roof and its distinctive oxidized-copper pitches.
The 159 hotel rooms and suites were created as compact urban lofts with big windows, interior glass walls for lots of natural light, and soft, dark curtains for privacy by Studio Marco Piva. Custom-made furniture, the contrast of warm, natural materials like wood and leather with glass and metals, as well as the color scheme of rich brown, black, and deep navy blue, all work together to create a setting that captures the essence of Milanese design. Soft bathrobes, care items by Culti Milano, and in-room Nespresso coffee makers are just a few of the exquisite hotel facilities that stand out.
The “elegant maximalism” design concept is embraced in the interior public spaces developed by Milanese designers AtelierP and Alessandro Cesario. Classic Milanese homes serve as the inspiration for the bold geometric designs on floors. Visual stimulation allows visitors to encounter an eclectic mix of contrasting components from many centuries of Milanese history in the hotel lobby and reception area, throughout the nearby co-working areas, and at the hotel’s all-day eating restaurant, Sofia Kitchen & Bar. The Sofia Kitchen & Bar is located in the former courtyard of the building, which is now covered in a glass roof. Inspired by the green of Milanese fountains, streetcars, and 1960s taxis, damask and oriental motifs, as well as art nouveau and modern objects, create a new living room for the Milanese. In addition to international and European classics, Sofia Kitchen & Bar serves a variety of Mediterranean cuisine that are all crafted with high-quality, fresh ingredients. The chic bar offers a wide selection of exquisite Milanese cocktails in addition to an extensive wine list with Italian and foreign brands.
The designers of the hotel built ISSEI Rooftop, a fine-dining restaurant and bar that specializes in Nikkei cuisine, a blend of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines, atop the hotel’s seventh-floor terrace with its stunning, expansive views of Milan. The meal takes its cues from both land and sea, fusing fresh foods with earthy flavors and a mix of spices. Distinctive dishes range from tres leches cake with matcha ice cream to Hamachi ceviche with yuzu leche de tigre, Wagyu beef tartare with crispy rice, shiro miso, and Ossetra caviar, chargrilled eggplant with miso glaze, and nori tacos with grilled lobster, yuzu soy, and rocoto mayonnaise.
With its visually complex, dreamlike environment connecting the bar, restaurant, lounge, and rooftop as eccentric spaces to enjoy an aperitivo, dinner, fancy cocktails, wine, or sake, this unique indoor and outdoor space, which will open in the coming weeks, offers a superbly stylish atmosphere where guests can embrace AtelierP’s “more is more” design philosophy.
A new terrace featuring an outdoor pool and lounge bar area was built on the hotel’s fourth level and will be open in the warmer months. Swim a few laps, take a dip, or simply unwind on a plush lounge chair while sipping wine or an aperitivo. This secluded area has a resort-like urban vibe and is ideal for a leisurely morning or afternoon. The hotel’s 24-hour fitness center and sauna are also available to guests’ use during the day and evening.
