Manchester has been making headlines in recent months as a result of horrific security concerns. This was due to a paucity of security personnel, though most frequent travelers would tell you that Manchester was always one of their least favorite airports before Covid. This was almost entirely due to security, who are notorious for being overly cautious and secondary screening nearly every bag for a number of strange and fantastic reasons.
Things have substantially improved, and with fast track, you will almost certainly have a short wait. The only time there appears to be a long line is first thing in the morning, when individuals arrive long before check-in opens, several hours before their departure.
Fast track is still open, despite some erroneous media reports. They haven’t been selling access to it, though. Fast track is still available to those with business class tickets or status.
They have already hired 60 more people, and by the end of May, they will have hired another 200, putting an end to the big problems.
In a statement, Manchester said, “At the same time, the airport is also asking passengers not to arrive earlier than this (3 hours) because it can lead to extra queues, and check-in and security facilities may not be open.”
The message continued, “While the airport is still experiencing longer queues at times, these are happening less frequently and they are being cleared relatively quickly.”
Ian Costigan, Interim Managing Director, said: “We want to make sure that customers get away on their travels, so everyone at Manchester Airport is focused on bringing in the extra resources we need to continue operating our full flight schedule.
“While the majority of people will get through security in less than 30 minutes, customers need to allow time for check-in and the possibility that security queues may be longer at peak times.”
