Play, an Icelandic budget carrier, has stated that it will begin transatlantic flights next year.
The airline has applied to the US Department of Transportation for permission.
The application comes two months after Reykjavik-Stansted service began, with one-way prices starting at £30.
In July, a third aircraft was added to the fleet, with intentions to treble the fleet capacity by 2022 to allow travel to the United States through Iceland from the United Kingdom.
Play is flying a 192-seat Airbus A321neo all-economy aircraft.
