This summer, Iceland’s low-cost airline Play will begin operating flights to Canada.
From 22nd June, the airline will provide service to Toronto’s Hamilton airport, which is an hour’s drive from downtown, with connections from Stansted and Liverpool through Reykjavik.
Five flights per week will leave from Stansted, and two will leave from Liverpool, both with a 70- to 80-minute layover in Iceland’s capital.
If purchased before January 31 at midnight, introductory single prices begin at £169 before increasing to £209.
In December of last year, Play flew 74,620 people, more than four times as many as in December 2021.
The load factor increased from 79.1% in November to 82.8% this month.
Birgir Jonsson, the CEO, said: “I have been eagerly anticipating the launch of ticket sales for flights to Canada, as it will be a major market for us at Play.
“Our services in North America have been met with great success, and I am excited to be able to offer more people the opportunity to travel between North America, Iceland, and Europe at affordable prices.
“Toronto, with its population of approximately 8 million, will greatly expand our market reach as people there will now have a reliable and cost-effective way to reach our many destinations in Europe and Iceland.”
