Emirates and Etihad are among 20 carriers who will be trialing the use of the IATA Travel Pass from March – an app allowing passengers to store and share Covid-19 Vaccine information to ensure airlines and governments have accurate information on passengers’ COVID-19 health status.
The head of passenger and security products, Alan Hayden addressed a joint IATA and World Aviation Festival webinar on 9th February and stated that it is working at “full capacity” to roll out Travel Pass and This way we can show governments that it’s safe to travel.”
The IATA Travel Pass is not the only initiative being rolled out to ensure the safe return of travel. CommonPass is another app backed by the Rockefeller institute that was trialed at Heathrow in 2020 by United Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways.
As the pandemic continues to roil the world, vaccines are increasingly being seen as the key to opening up travel. For the future of the travel industry, we hope that this can be made into a success.
