Iata’s Travel Pass now accepts the NHS Covid Pass and the European Union Digital Covid Certificate (DCC) as confirmed proof of immunization for travel.
It means that travelers with an EU DCC or a UK NHS Covid Pass can access up-to-date Covid-19 travel information, create an electronic passport, and import their vaccination certificate all in one spot.
This information, according to Iata, can be shared with airlines and border control officials. “who can have the assurance that the certificate presented to them is genuine and belongs to the person presenting it”.
“Handling the European and UK certifications through Iata Travel Pass is a crucial step forward, delivering ease for travelers, authenticity for governments, and efficiency for airlines,” said Nick Careen, senior vice president of operations, safety, and security at Iata.
Iata applauded the EU Commission’s work in building the EU DCC system “in record time” and “thereby standardizing digital vaccination certificates across Europe,” according to the organization.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is now urging the World Health Organization (WHO) to reconsider its efforts to create a worldwide digital vaccine standard.
“As more states develop vaccine programs, many are searching for technical solutions to give immunization verification for their residents when they travel,” Careen added.
“In the absence of a WHO standard, Iata encourages them to use the EU DCC as a tried-and-true solution that complies with WHO guidelines and can assist to connect the world,” says Iata.
