Today, the World’s Most Livable Hotels® and AKA, a leader in luxury hospitality, announced the inauguration of Hotel AKA Alexandria. The 180-room hotel in the center of Old Town Alexandria is the area’s newest luxury hotel and marks a significant development for the city’s hospitality industry by providing a classy and serene urban getaway. The hotel is a great place for those who are in town for work or pleasure because it is close to waterfront restaurants, museums, art galleries, and boutique shopping experiences. It is also only 20 minutes from the Nation’s Capital.
The Hotel AKA Alexandria is the first hotel project that Italian architect Piero Lissoni of Lissoni New York has completed in the United States. The building effortlessly combines modern minimalism and mid-century design features in the quaint, brick-lined Alexandria Old Town environment.
Visitors are welcomed to the lobby’s warm and welcoming welcome area as they arrive, with provocative works of art by Mineheart Limited and Sabine Pigalle bordering the walls. The communal rooms’ sleek lines, deep hues, and luxurious materials are reminiscent of Scandinavian design, Japanese minimalism, and a reimagining of colonial architecture. A floating staircase designed by Lissoni that highlights dark steel and distinctive forms and ascends to the hotel’s terrace level is the main point of the lobby. Visitors and guests can enjoy cocktails from the seasonal bar on the terrace while taking in the serene oasis and views of the Zen Garden, a tranquil outdoor area with lush vegetation. Along with the bar seating, the terrace is provided with several seating areas, fire pits, and lots of flora.
The hotel’s bedrooms and suites are as spectacular, providing residential-style comfort and some of the most space in Alexandria. They feature stylish amenities and furnishings created by renowned artisans, including Italian furniture makers Living Divani and Porro, and were designed by Lissoni New York. The Zen Garden Rooms, which offer tranquil views of the Zen Garden, are available to visitors who want an even more calm stay.
An inviting and relaxed atmosphere is conveyed throughout the rooms by using a natural color scheme and warm lighting. The lovely windows that face out into Old Town or the terrace courtyard let in plenty of natural light. French Crema Luna stone is used extensively in the bathrooms. Large stone vanities and spacious walk-in showers with rain showerheads and Fantini fittings offer a level of luxury not previously seen in Alexandria.
The Suite Collection at Hotel AKA Alexandria has been meticulously planned and exquisitely outfitted with the discerning, design-forward guest in mind. Each Piero Lissoni-designed apartment, which ranges in size from 525 to 735 square feet, has been carefully selected for the utmost rest and pleasure. Each suite has a roomy living and sleeping area, as well as a wet bar that was specially created by Lissoni and a living room with residential architectural influences.
“Lissoni envisioned a new chapter for the old city of Alexandria, a destination for business travelers and leisure visitors to feel at ease in an art-oriented environment. The sculptural motifs are distributed in the common areas like the staircase, the art gallery, bar lounge and the library. We added a serene garden terrace where guests can enjoy the changing of the seasons and relax in peace and tranquility,” states Stefano Giussani, CEO, Lissoni, Inc.q
