Holland America Line’s return to Southeast Asia is commemorated by the Westerdam. The 2,000-passenger ship is already making a number of port calls in Indonesia as the luxury brand’s first vessel to sail in the area since 2020.
The port visits are a part of a 16-night repositioning journey that began earlier this month in Australia.
The itinerary includes four ports in Queensland and the Northern Territory before the ship arrived in Indonesia while sailing from Sydney to Singapore.
Before landing in Singapore on January 19, the Westerdam is scheduled to make stops in the Asian nation’s Komodo Island, Lombok, and Bali.
Early in February, the ship begins a full schedule in the continent after a regular drydock.
The program features Holland America’s return to Japan along with additional sailings in Southeast Asia on five different itineraries.
Highlights of the itinerary include stops in Yokohama, Kobe/Osaka, Tokushima, Kagoshima, Shimizu, Ishigaki, Kochi, and other Japanese cities.
Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia are all included in the comprehensive, three-month curriculum in Asia.
The ship will then wrap up its Asian season in late April with a 14-day voyage across the North Pacific to Seattle, where it will make its homeport for the next Alaskan summer.
The Westerdam, a member of Holland America’s Vista-Class, went into service in 2004. The 82,000-ton ship provides a variety of dining, entertainment, and bar venues, similar to the rest of the company’s fleet.
Among the public areas is Explorations Café, a lounge that provides travel materials and enrichment activities for guests. The cruise ship also provides Billboard Onboard, where two pianists perform shows themed around statistics and figures of the music industry.
The Pinnacle Grill, the go-to steakhouse for Holland America, the Canaletto Restaurant, and more are available for eating on the Westerdam.
