Sun Princess, the first Sphere-class ship from Princess Cruises, has a maximum passenger capacity of 4,300.
The 175,500-ton Sun Princess, which is due to make its debut in February 2024, will be the line’s biggest ship yet and run on liquefied natural gas.
Prior to repositioning to the US east coast and beginning to serve western and eastern Caribbean trips from Port Everglades, Florida, Sun Princess will run its inaugural program in the Mediterranean.
The first three trips on the Sun Princess’ debut season are now available for purchase. Starting at £1,789, a 10-night Grand Mediterranean journey leaves on February 28, 2024.
Following the Sun Princess, which was in service from 1974 to 1988, and another ship between 1995 and 2020, this ship is Princess’ third Sun Princess.
According to Princess, the ship, which is presently being built at a Fincantieri shipyard, will have multi-story dining halls and new staterooms.
The 21-deck Sun Princess has more “outside balcony area” than any other Princess ship, with 2,157 cabins, including 50 suites and 100 connected rooms.
The Signature Collection of new suites on Sun Princess will grant guests access to the Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge, and Signature Sun Deck.
Other Princess ships’ club class lodging shall henceforth be referred to as Reserve Collection.
The line said that the new onboard entertainment area, The Dome, is a multi-level room built of glass that was inspired by Santorini.
The Dome has a pool during the day, but at night it transforms into a venue for entertainment, with the pool acting as a stage with “a South Beach ambiance,” lighting effects, and the ability to host aerial shows.
The Sun Princess will provide over 29 dining and bar options. The ship’s three-story Piazza is said to as “an outward looking suspended room with comfy seating,” according to the line.
The Piazza’s center features an LED screen that may display live entertainment programming.
Along with Crooners Bar, Bellini’s Cocktail Bar, and Alfredo’s Pizzeria, the Piazza also houses a brand-new establishment called Coffee Currents.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, said: “Sun Princess is a new and bespoke ship platform, designed to simultaneously embrace Princess heritage while boldly pressing into the future with iconic, elegant and pure lines unique to our brand.
“A first-of-its-kind Dome on the top deck and suspended glass Piazza in the centre of Sun Princess offer innovative designs showcasing expansive ocean views for incredible opportunities to connect with the sea.”
New information about Sun Princess, including additional dining options, entertainment options, and onboard amenities, will be released in the upcoming months, according to the cruise line.
Fincantieri is expected to build a second Sphere-class ship in the spring of 2025.
