The Oneworld partners believe that the new “long-term strategic partnership” between Finnair and Qatar Airways will help Doha’s ambitions to become the alliance’s primary hub.
Between November and December, Finnair intends to begin daily flights from and to Doha (Hamad International) via Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and one additional, as of yet unidentified European city.
A “complete codeshare arrangement” between the two airlines, encompassing joint passenger and cargo capacity, will enable the flights. Travelers will be able to take advantage of seamless connections onto Qatar’s global network, which includes about 100 destinations, through Doha thanks to the codeshare.
Using Airbus A330 aircraft with the airline’s new long-haul cabin, which offers Air Lounge business-class seats, a new premium economy class, and refresh economy class, Finnair will fly the routes.
The cooperation will lay the groundwork for “future expansion” of services between Nordic markets and the Middle East, according to Akbar Al Bakar, group chief executive of Qatar Airways.
Al Bakar said, “Soon, Doha will be the oneworld hub bringing more airline partners together than ever before. With this codeshare agreement, travellers from the Nordics will continue to have excellent connectivity to Doha with Finnair and onwards with Qatar Airways to attractive leisure and key business destinations across Asia, Africa, Australasia and the Middle East.”
Topi Manner, Finnair chief executive, also said: “The role of Doha as an international hub is growing, and Qatar Airways has extensive connections from Doha.”
