Following a surge in bookings, Emirates is launching a second daily route from Gatwick to Dubai.
Following the airline’s return to Gatwick in December, UK bookings for Gatwick departures have more than doubled since the beginning of the year.
With the launch of the second daily Gatwick service, Emirates now has 91 weekly flights in the United Kingdom.
Both Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 widebody aircraft fly into Gatwick.
The airline now operates a six-times-day A380 Heathrow service, double-daily A380 Manchester flights, ten weekly Birmingham flights, daily Glasgow flights, four weekly Newcastle flights, and double-daily Gatwick flights.
As a result of the lifting of international travel restrictions around the world, Emirates now serves 120 destinations from its Dubai hub, accounting for nearly 90% of its pre-pandemic network.
Richard Jewsbury, divisional vice president of the United Kingdom, said: “We have seen a considerable uptick in demand for international travel in recent weeks, particularly from the southeast, and are pleased to be expanding our operations from Gatwick.
“Emirates is fully committed to the UK and we have operated flights from the airport for over 30 years, providing vital connectivity to Dubai and across our international network for passengers traveling for business, leisure or to visit loved ones.
“The route has also carried billions of pounds worth of cargo into and out of the region – supporting UK businesses of all shapes and sizes.”
Stephanie Wear, the airport’s vice-president of aviation development, added: “We were delighted in December with Emirates’ return to Gatwick and this expansion of the service is testament to the success of operations here.
“The double-daily flights to Dubai will open up a fantastic range of destinations in Asia, Africa, and beyond to tourists and businesses across the southeast.”
