Emirates’ method for purchasing wine is remarkable. Emirates has been purchasing premium wines as soon as possible for the past 16 years in order to give them time to age and achieve their full potential before being served on board. A portion of the 6.5 million bottles of great wine presently stored in the Emirates Wine Cellar in France won’t be ready for sampling until 2035.
There are presently 37 distinct French wine and champagne varieties available on Emirates’ aircraft. The average age of Business Class Bordeaux red wines in Emirates’ cellar is 8 to 10 years, but the average age of First Class Bordeaux red wines is 12 to 15 years. The vintage collection at Emirates also contains 2005 vintages of Château Montrose, Château Cos d’Estournel, and Château Margaux.
