Emirates now provides free internet to all customers in all cabin classes as part of an attempt to improve in-flight connectivity. The carrier claims that since the improvement, 30,000 more passengers in economy class have connected to the free onboard Wi-Fi each week.
Travellers must sign up for the Dubai airline’s Skywards rewards scheme in order to use the link. Emirates has made more than $300 million in onboard connectivity investments to be at the forefront of wireless technology. Free app texting is available to all Skywards members in all four tiers who are travelling in any class.
First-class passengers as well as silver, gold, and platinum Skywards members travelling in business class get unrestricted free internet access. Internet access is free in all classes for Platinum Skywards members.
450,000 users use the airline on average each month, an increase of 30% over the previous year. Nearly 10% of all passengers are using the free onboard Wi-Fi, with routes through the Americas seeing the highest usage, followed by those in Europe and Africa. On 50 brand-new Airbus A350 aircraft that the airline will begin operating next year, new high-speed in-flight broadband will be made available, powered by Inmarsat’s GX Aviation satellite network.
Senior Vice President of Retail, In-Flight Entertainment, and Connectivity Patrick Brannelly said: “Emirates has persistently worked with our service providers to optimise and improve the connectivity experience.”
“In March we delivered about 55% more data per customer session compared to early 2022 despite the number of sessions increasing by 68% in the same period.”
“We will continue to work to invest in upgrades and enhancements, and our A350 aircraft will arrive with the next generation of satellite connectivity already equipped.”
