Ember Locke, the sixth property in London and the thirteenth overall for the pioneering lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke, is now open, the company is happy to announce. The aparthotel, which has 121 apartments ranging in size from studios to duplex one-bedroom residences, is situated in the affluent metropolitan boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea. It is spread out across eight levels. EVE, a coffee shop, bar and restaurant that offers its services alongside co-working space, a conference room and a spacious garden, complements the lobby and communal rooms. An exercise area and a laundry room are additional amenities.
The Natural History Museum, the V&A, the Science Museum, and the Design Museum are just a short stroll from Ember Locke, which is prominently located on the historic Cromwell Road in a community that is bursting with culture.
The warm, distinctive interiors, which overlay informal and bohemian areas with soothing ambient tones and colours, welcome guests and offer peace from the bustle of Cromwell Road. They were created in partnership by the creative and interior design companies Atelier Ochre and House of Dré. The late Kensington Roof Gardens and the carefree flamboyance exhibited by the legendary mid-century fashion brand Biba, which was born in Kensington’s bohemian fashion scene, served as inspiration for the interior design. The Art Deco design style combined with 21st century retro futurism ensures that the interiors are a nostalgia-soaked reimagining of more than a decade of glamour in Kensington.
Visitors are taken to a bygone, yet fundamentally current era by Ember Locke’s apartment’s interior design, which is organised as a sequence of boudoir chambers with brilliant tones and vibrant patterns. Brass accents, fringes, tassels, and heavy dividing drapes give the space a refined atmosphere while pairing Art Deco details and daring pieces like sweeping banquette seats, disassembled wardrobes, and retro fittings.
Bright textiles, handcrafted furnishings, and exquisite rattan structures accentuate the unique mix of character features in the shared areas, while lavish vegetation artfully frames the view of Ember Locke’s expansive garden. Custom artwork created by House of Dré adorns the walls of the guest rooms and public areas, and a variety of works by emerging local artists have been chosen for display all over the building.
Ember Locke will be home to EVE, a restaurant, bar and café that is inspired by the various flavours and breaking bread cultures of the eastern and southern Mediterranean areas. This is in keeping with Locke’s commitment to the finest offers of food and drink. EVE offers a modern all-day menu that is full of character, luxurious, and rich, flavorful heritage. White Rabbit Projects will oversee the opening of EVE at Ember Locke in September 2023.
Locke also collaborates with RE.LINE, a green company that offers uniforms to organisations with a focus on the hospitality sector. By working with artists to rethink and repurpose things that would otherwise end up in landfills, the brand recycles products and gives them a new lease on life. Excitingly, Ember Locke is the first Locke property to experience the reality of RE.LINE’s concept. A series of unisex wardrobe essentials in colour schemes inspired by the Ember Locke’s interiors has been developed by RE.series in partnership with House of Dré.
A limited edition run of 121 unique prints based on three distinct designs was produced by House of Dré in collaboration with East London printmaker Ossa Prints. The outfit is made up of a variety of interchangeable organic t-shirts, cushy sweatshirts, and basic coats in dusky neutral colour schemes.
The City Studio has starting rates of £229 per night.
