The Ugandan flag carrier ,which was dormant from 2001 – 2019, is ready to resume long haul flights only 2 years after the airline was resurrected. Uganda Airlines has announced the launch of a new direct flight from Entebbe to London Heathrow. The airline recently took delivery of two new A330-800neos which it will be using to operate the route.
Entebbe hosts the country’s international airport and is located approximately 25 miles south west of the country’s capital, Kampala. The new service could commence as early as 28th March 2021. The UK has not had a direct connection to Uganda since British Airways ceased operating the route in 2015 citing competition from the gulf carriers weakening demand.
The airline has reportedly secured slots at London Heathrow where landing rights are exchanged for some of the highest prices in the world. The A330neo is the newest variant of the Airbus A330 aircraft range and it offers airlines improved fuel efficiency and range. The Uganda Airlines’ A330 aircraft have a capacity of 261 seats.
The airline will operate 213 seats in economy, 28 in premium economy and 20 business class. The airline is using the same Stelia Aerospace Opal business class seat seen on Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines which reclines into a fully flat sleeping position. The seat has a 44 inch pitch an 18-inch touchscreen monitor. All passengers in business class enjoy direct aisle access.
