The cost of Covid-19 PCR testing in the United Arab Emirates has been capped at AED50, which is less than £10.
The former price limit in Abu Dhabi and Dubai was AED65 and AED150, respectively, with costs varying in the other emirates.
Clinics must also deliver results within 24 hours, in addition to adhering to the new pricing cap.
UAE authorities have cut the cost of PCR testing multiple times to ensure that they stay inexpensive, and complementary tests are available for students and employees in certain professions.
Consumers and the travel industry have long complained about the high cost of PCR tests in the UK, and the British government is now tightening down on “cowboy” testing companies.
For green or fully vaccinated arrivals from amber destinations, the cost of an NHS Test and Trace test for overseas arrivals was cut from £88 to £68 earlier this month.
“Is the PCR testing system in the UK about making money?” tweeted Gemma Antrobus, owner of Haslemere Travel and chair of Aito Agents, in response to the UAE revelation. Let’s take a closer look… The Ministry of Health and Prevention in Dubai has reduced the cost of PCR testing to AED50 (less than £10). In addition, results must be provided within 24 hours. “How much are we going to charge here?”
