After a brief suspension, Comair, a South African airline that flies in the British Airways livery, is ready to restart operations.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) suspended the Johannesburg-based carrier’s operating certificate earlier this month as a “precautionary measure” due to safety concerns.
However, Comair’s ban has been lifted following a five-day assessment by the SACAA.
Glenn Orsmond, the CEO of Comair, said: “The best way we can assist our customers is to start flying again.
“Our operations, airport, contact centres and support teams are working to help customers get to their destinations.
“We’re ramping up our schedule and should have our regional and domestic services restored by tomorrow ahead of the long weekend.”
Orsmond emphasized that no conclusions affecting flight operations or maintenance were made.
“We operate some of the most modern aircraft in South African skies, apply global best practice to ensure operational safety and our crew training is world class,” he added.
During the operations pause, Orsmond said the airline did everything it could to help customers, including chartering planes and rebooking passengers on other airlines.
