Renowned fashion designer Christian Louboutin has partnered with Marugal Hotel Management to create Vermelho, a unique boutique hotel located in Melides, a village in Portugal’s Alentejo region, south of Comporta and Lisbon. Inspired by the local arts and crafts community, Louboutin personally curated the interior of the 13-room property, incorporating eclectic and maximalist styles, as well as furniture, art, and ceramics from local Portuguese talent.
The hotel offers a “home-away-from-home” experience with its restaurant, Xtian, and Vermelho cocktail bar, as well as spa treatments and massages. Louboutin collaborated with Lusitanian architect Madalena Caiado and longtime friend Carolina Irving for the hotel’s design and decoration, while the gardens were designed by French landscape architect Louis Benech. Louboutin sees Vermelho as an opportunity to bring his dreams to reality and showcase the excellence of artists and artisans he admires.
Louboutin said: “I realised many people have the fantasy of designing or owning a hotel. I like to make my dreams a reality. That is why Vermelho is born.
“This project allows me to empty my storage full of antiques and objects I have purchased over many years! Furthermore, it is an opportunity to show the excellence of many artists and artisans I admire.”
