Chile Eliminates Quarantine Requirements for Fully Vaccinated Tourists

Chile has become the latest country to eliminate the requirement for fully vaccinated visitors to be quarantined upon arrival.

If a PCR test performed upon arrival in the South American country is negative, the quarantine restrictions for vaccinated overseas travelers will be lifted beginning 1st November.

Visitors must be completely immunized, and vaccines must be recognized in Chile.

Proof of a negative PCR test performed 72 hours before travel is still necessary. At the airport in Chile, a PCR test is performed once more.

People entering the nation must go by private vehicle directly to their designated lodging and wait for the results of the PCR test, which can take up to 24 hours.

An electronic form must also be completed up to 48 hours prior to arrival, and visitors entering the nation must have travel health insurance with a minimum coverage of $30,000.

The decision comes ahead of the southern hemisphere summer season and the anticipated reopening of Easter Island, a remote Chilean region, in December or January following Covid’s closure.

It follows the lead of other countries such as Thailand and Fiji in reopening to international tourists after the Foreign Office lifted advice against all but essential travel to more than 80 countries as the travel red list was reduced from 54 to seven on Monday.

According to Danny Callaghan, CEO of the Latin American Travel Association (Lata), “After a slow 18 months, I am thrilled to see UK travelers are once again able to visit Chile.

“This iconic destination has one of the best Covid programs in the world, and I’m pleased that they are now seeing the benefits of tourism returning.

“This also bodes well for the Antarctic cruise season, with many vessels set to depart from Chile. I see this as the beginning of a long-awaited recovery for the wider region.”
