From Monday, children aged 12 to 15 will be allowed to schedule a second Covid-19 vaccination, according to the government.
At a press conference on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed the change, two days after Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced that the NHS Covid Pass will be extended for overseas travel for the same age range.
Many in the travel industry will appreciate the development of second jabs for 12-15-year-olds, as a requirement for all arrivals aged 12 or over to be double-jabbed has hampered family bookings for popular locations like Spain.
While the limitations will not affect Christmas or New Year’s travel because guidelines need a second shot at least 14 days before departure, they will allow families with children in the age bracket to plan for future vacations if the restrictions remain in place.
Agents indicated this week that, despite the imposition of harsher travel restrictions in recent weeks, reservations having largely dried up, they were optimistic about a significant peak booking period for spring and summer travel.
