As part of British Airways’ sustainability program, travelers can now purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) credits to lessen their carbon footprint.
The credit program, which was introduced today in partnership with Pure Leapfrog, a non-profit sustainability, and decarbonization organization, is in addition to the existing option for customers to offset their emissions.
BA said it has enough sustainable aviation fuels to fly carbon-reduced flights between London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow for the COP26 Conference in Glasgow in November thanks to cooperation with oil and gas company BP.
SAF emissions release carbon that has already been discharged into the atmosphere, as opposed to typical jet fuel emissions, which release carbon that has been locked underground.
Sean Doyle described the airline’s efforts to be greener at the introduction of the BA Better World program, which took place in front of an Airbus 320neo aircraft with a new livery painted in the airline’s sustainability program colors.
He stated, ” “It is only through working in partnership with government and industry that we’ll be able to reach our targets.”
When compared to standard jet fuel, he claims the action will “significantly reduce” emissions related to transporting clients to and from COP26.
Doyle continued, “We’re clear that we have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the planet and have a detailed plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, including investing in more fuel-efficient aircraft, improving our operational efficiency, and investing in the development of sustainable aviation fuel and zero emissions aircraft.”
