Barclays and Avios have revealed details of their new partnership that offers their mutual UK based customers the opportunity to earn an annual return flight cabin upgrade voucher in addition to monthly Avios. Although the scheme was first publicised in February 2020 it has taken 12 months to finally reveal details of how the programme will work.
The new Avios Rewards account will be offered to Barclays Wealth and Barclays Premier Banking and customers in the next few weeks. The new account will have a monthly fee of £12.
The account will earn members 1,500 Avios per month and these will be transferred directly to their Executive Club account on a monthly basis. Every year, on the anniversary date of opening the Avios Rewards account, members will have a return flight cabin upgrade voucher credited to their Executive Club account.
To entice new customers to the account, Barclays will offer a sign-up bonus of 25,000 Avios to customers switching an eligible current account to the new rewards account.
The new Avios Rewards account will only be accessible to Barclays customers who have £100,000 or more saved or invested with the bank or who have an annual gross income exceeding £75,000 which is paid directly into their Barclays current account.
Mortgage customers will earn an extra 700 Avios per month. A sign-up bonus of 2,000 Avios will be offered to customers taking out a new mortgage product. Life cover customers will earn 150 Avios per month for the first 12 months which will increase to 500 Avios per month if they add critical illness cover. Home cover customers will earn an extra 75 Avios per month for contents insurance, 75 Avios per month for buildings insurance and 150 Avios per month for combined cover. All these additional rewards will be earned during the first year of cover only.
Jose Maria Carvalho, managing director at Barclays, said:
“Our new Barclays Avios Rewards programme is a great way to help our customers’ get closer to the travel they want by offering them a straightforward way to build up Avios that they can put towards trips and experiences when the time is right.”
“By the end of their first year, customers could have enough Avios to fly peak return to Munich or Nice in Economy and they will also have the option of using their free upgrade voucher for the trip if they wish.”
