The 4-star Borghese Contemporary Hotel, located in the centre of Rome, formally inaugurated on 1st July 2023. The hotel is the third building of the reputable Mascagni Collection hotel group, after the Mascagni Hotel and the Mascagni Luxury Rooms, and is situated in an elegant antique Roman edifice in front of the Palazzo Borghese. The elegant and practical hotel takes visitors on a tour of Roman hospitality’s artistic and design traditions.
The opening of the Borghese Contemporary Hotel, which is owned by the Roman Piperno Family and continues a family enterprise started in 1973 and run by the twin brothers Romeo and Guglielmo Piperno, solidifies their expertise in the hospitality industry.
The Borghese Contemporary Hotel was established as a lounge in ancient Rome for a clientele that was mostly bleisure (business + leisure), with the goal of making the visitor feel at home by providing them with an opulent private apartment.
The Borghese Contemporary Hotel is strategically situated in the centre of Rome, overlooking Via della Lupa, Via della Torretta, and Vicolo della Torretta from Largo della Fontanella di Borghese, in front of the Palazzo Borghese. It is also just a short stroll from the famous shopping district Via Condotti, the nearby Piazza di Spagna, and the magnificent Pantheon.
The Borghese Contemporary Hotel’s name, interior layout, and ambience are intended to evoke memories of Rome’s glorious past while also showcasing the Piperno Family’s lifelong appreciation for modern and contemporary art. As the owner, Romeo Piperno, highlights: ” In the name “ContemporARy HoTel” we find the word ART to stress its importance as it guides our guest through colours, materials, and decorations in a mix of tradition and modernity.”
The 24 rooms of the Borghese Contemporary Hotel depict characteristic aspects of ancient Rome. There are references to Giorgio De Chirico’s Metaphysics as well as eternal volumetric landscapes and modern interpretations of classical architecture on the walls. The marble washbasins in the rooms are reminiscent of Roman Domus and the famed “Nasoni” fountains in the streets of the city, and the upholstery is reminiscent of Roman triclinia. With velvet, marble, and travertine used for the flooring and walls, together with warm tones of burgundy, dark green, beige, and red, the colours and materials also evoke Romanticism. The tight volumes are highlighted by the textured plasters on the walls, and the earth tones utilised are reminiscent of the hues of the city’s structures.
The design of the areas, particularly how they were divided in reference to the building’s original morphology, received significant consideration. Smaller rooms were removed to make room for larger rooms and suites. Although the bathroom’s volumes are perfectly capable of interacting with the entire ambience of the space, shutters that underline their ‘box within a box’ character separate them from the walls and ceiling.
