Starting today, 25th May, fully-vaccinated visitors to Barbados will no longer be required to take the Covid-19 test.
Unvaccinated visitors must still submit a negative Covid test to enter Barbados.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced the changes to the island’s travel procedures.
The relaxation of admission requirements comes as more than 70% of the eligible population in Barbados is completely vaccinated.
The protocol update also stipulates that masks will be required only indoors and on public transit. Masks are not required outside.
According to Mottley, the removal of the entry test will have a favorable impact on the country’s tourism experience, including faster processing times at Grantley Adams International Airport.
She stated: “We had a 90% decline in the number of visitors in the last two years. [Now] we are significantly on our way back up.”
The timing is key, as travelers in its source markets plan their summer and winter vacations.
Lisa Cummins, Minister of Tourism and International Transport, added: “What this signals to our travellers is that it is safe for them to come to Barbados, and we are in a position where we can comfortably accommodate many of the same measures they are experiencing at home, such as the protocols for mask wearing and testing for certain activities.”
