British Airways has increased capacity to the United States after bookings nearly doubled in the hours following the UK government’s declaration that vaccinated US visitors to England would no longer be required to quarantine.

Following the news on Wednesday of the relaxation beginning 2nd August, BA claimed a 95% increase in US bookings, claiming it has added more seats to New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, as well as Berlin, Geneva, and Hamburg.

From 16th August, the number of flights between New York-JFK and Heathrow will increase from 17 to 21 per week, while the number of flights between Los Angeles and Chicago and Heathrow will increase from seven to ten per week.

From 23rd August, services to Los Angeles will expand to 14 per week, and flights between Seattle and Heathrow will increase from four to seven per week.

Throughout September, BA stated it would continue to expand its US-UK schedule.

Following a successful trial of vaccine certification checks by BA, Virgin Atlantic, and Heathrow earlier this month, the government relaxed quarantine rules for vaccinated travelers.

Sean Doyle, the CEO of British Airways, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming new visitors from the US and EU from next week.

“We’ll support our customers as we emerge from this crisis and hope for crucial travel corridors to be established to allow reciprocal agreements.  This will allow UK nationals to travel as UK Covid cases fall and vaccination rates continue to rise.”

BA stated that it has collaborations with a number of testing companies as well as the travel health app VeriFly.

Passengers who have their travel documents certified using the app will be able to check-in and obtain their boarding passes before arriving at the airport using ba.com or the British Airways app.
