BA CityFlyer will restart its London City to Prague route today Sunday (31st October), citing increased consumer confidence at the airport.
With the restoration of Prague, 13 of the 15 routes that BA CityFlyer ran in 2019 are now back on the schedule, with Milan Linate and Munich services expected to resume in the coming months.
In addition to existing services to Zurich and Geneva, BA CityFlyer will add flights to the ski resorts of Salzburg and Chambéry to its winter schedule.
Since the lifting of limitations for travelers coming to the UK, London City has recorded “substantial growth” in passenger numbers, notably in business traffic.
In October, 145,000 people are expected to pass through the airport, up 21% from September.
The airport’s chief commercial officer, Richard Hill, said: “We are delighted with the strong performance through October. We’ve long maintained that business traffic would return and the demand from customers during October has given us real confidence heading into 2022.
“It’s also testament to the agility of our airlines in providing convenient flight times and competitive pricing that benefit our customers.
“The growing confidence in the market has led to British Airways announcing three new, exciting connections between London City, Prague, Salzburg and Chambéry.
“Passengers itching to get to the Christmas markets, or Alps for a much-deserved break – or flexible working destination – this winter, will be pleased to know they can now travel from the centre of London to these destinations in a few hours.”
In November, Swiss will add five weekly rotations to Zurich, Luxair will add three to Luxembourg, KLM will add another rotation to Amsterdam, and Lufthansa will add 11 to Frankfurt.
BA CityFlyer is adding 10 weekly rotations to its Glasgow route, seven to Edinburgh, six to Berlin, and two to Amsterdam and Florence.
Passengers arriving at London City Airport from abroad will be able to schedule and take a lateral flow test at Collinson’s on-site testing center.
Hill said, in response to the chancellor’s announcement of an APD decrease on domestic flights: “I would expect it to encourage more people to travel between London and the regions.”
